Red always slept on top of the TV. He hasn't even tried to get up there since Jim died. Lolly was a "bed cat," meaning that she would lie in wait in the hallway outside the bedroom door, and try and herd Jim in to bed. She loved to snuggle with either of us, as long as we were in bed. Not any more. Achilles, who normally would not give me the time of day, is all over me, banging his head against mine as he stands on the back of my chair. They are not eating their crunchies at the normal rate. Their breakfast of canned food vanishes as usual, but that bowl of crunchies isn't emptying as fast as it did before Jim died.
We have replaced at least half a dozen light bulbs, some of which had been replaced the week before. I have not yet tried to turn on the big TV since it went funny.
Fortunately, the car has not acted up (knock wood). Except for the fact that somebody drove by and broke the driver's side mirror on Burbie and just kept going. That happened the next day. I hope the hit-and-run driver broke his/her passenger side mirror in the process. Seems only fitting.
I remember you searching high and low for the Patterson Cats Calender last year for Jim. Low & behold I had one and sent it down to you for him.
ReplyDeleteI just couldn't get over how sweet you were to be on a mission such as that for your husband. How blessed you both were to have each other.
I can imagine the kitties are grieving to have lost their love, too. It's just so sad no matter how you slice it.
Thinking of you, friend.
I'm off to bed, here downunder.
ReplyDeleteI was very curious about their behaviour.
It is very interesting.
Speaking of cars I put my car into have it serviced today, and when they were taking it for a test drive, they had a smash in it.
Pat those cats Ronni, it can be very comforting.
Possum, I am sure the service station will make it right. Otherwise, you'll be standing out there with a sign, right? Even if it is midwinter...
ReplyDeleteMonica, he loved that calendar. Those cats could always make him smile.
Don't worry--the cats are getting cuddled, whether they like it or not.
So, if you go with Jim's Will, does that mean that it will be at your discretion who receives what?
ReplyDeleteI'm liking the sound of that much better. Mmm
Pertaining to P W? The Will is as I quoted yesterday. I don't think I have pick-and-choose options. P W gets whatever he wants.
ReplyDeleteBe warned...I'm going to be insensitive, again. I'm apologising in advance.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure when you discussed who was going to get what, Jim only meant for you to make arrangements for that in your Will once he had passed on. I'm assuming that Jim was older than you.
I can't believe he expected you to lose everything if he passed on. Surely not.
But, if you live in a community state, isn't half the estate yours?
ReplyDeleteIs it possible to TV is too cold for the cat?
ReplyDeleteI will check in on Monday. Hope you have a peaceful weekend. Ciao!
Sorry, my questions were so dumb. I forgot the PW was mentioned in the will. I only remember his mother being mentioned. Now I remember it stating he could take any of the antiques he wanted.
Okay, breathe!
I can't help but be upset for the position you're in, Ronni. By all means, make PW and his entourage wait until you're ready to deal with that aspect. This is much too soon for you to have to deal with any of that.
ReplyDeleteBe sure and ask the attorney about the debt situation and how that affects the antiques/assets.
ReplyDeleteI do not believe Jim meant for you to be left with all the debt and not have a means to pay, yet give antiques to his nephew.
In any event, that is for an attorney to settle and a legal question for Texas probate law.
Jim was actually two years younger than I.
ReplyDeleteRonni
ReplyDeleteI don't want to be ghoulish, but have you considered the possibility that the electrical problems you are now having may be related to the gunshot. The timing makes me think that the bullet might have gone somewhere into the electric meter or somewhere where it has affected your electrical service. You might look around or have it checked.
Cap'n, you can be as ghoulish as you like. Nothing comes close to sitting out there, trying to staunch the bleeding, waiting for the ambulance to get there.
ReplyDeleteThere was no exit wound. I guess, due to the way he did it, a lot of that kinetic energy got lost in the kick? I don't know.
He knelt on the ground, and braced the butt of the gun against the tree. The recoil spun him around to where he was about 90° around the tree and facint the opposite direction from where he started.
That is pieced together from where I found him and what the police said.
