The Thin Veneer.

Our kind and gentle civilization is a very thin veneer. The howling, chaotic, smelly thing that is Real Life lurks just below, waiting to burst through. We are kept very busy spackling over all the cracks.

I wrote that sentence as a closing for an article about Cinderella at

Helium.com.

What happened to the Petit family of Cheshire, Connecticut early this week is a prime example of the ugly side of real life breaking through the thin veneer.

Memorial Service article.

There is no making sense of this. There are times when life sucks. Horrible things happen. Beautiful young women and children get cancer. Beautiful young women and children get killed by thugs. Vlad the Impaler is loose in the world.

I hate this. Somebody send me something with bunnies and rainbows and the love of God. Maybe it will help.

  2. This is far worse than I ever imagined. Those poor girls.

If the doctor ever recovers from this, I will be surprised. It's his mind that will finish him off, I'm sure.

If there was something missing from the Court documents, why on earth was he paroled?

These bastards have more rights than their victims. Disgusting!
