Driving in Austin

Son is working as an extra in an Indie film in Austin today, so I had to drive him to the studio. I rarely go into Austin any more, except to see Chandra once in a while.

They have GOT to do something about the access road at 51st and I35 northbound. When you turn from westbound 51st onto the access road, it comes as something of a shock that the access road is two-way right there. It's one-way almost everywhere else in town. So, you drive a block or so, and the sign says to turn left to the access road. There's no stoplight, and all the traffic headed south to 51st, along the back side of Capitol Plaza has to go by before you can make that left. The access road you find yourself on at that point comes across 51st and merges in there. I guess 51st used to be a cross-town thoroughfare, but it hasn't been for some years.

Of course, I never could get on the highway there, as there was some problem at the 290/2222 underpass. I just cut back through Capitol Plaza and went over to Lamar and back to the highway a bit further north.

Flying home at around 75 mph, A huge black SUV came barrelling up my tailpipe, swung around me on the right, and almost took off my front bumper getting in between me and the next SUV. It was a black Lincoln Navigator, and I just sighed. The driver was zooming up the highway, in and out of traffic, going at least 80 most of the time.

But, Karma kicked in. When I got off at my exit, guess who was right in front of me at the access road light? Yup. You got it. Black Lincoln Navigator. Same license plate.

All that intimidating of smaller cars didn't do him a bit of good, did it?
