I have a cast for "All My Sons."
It was actually much easier than I thought it would be. I did not think I would cast the same Kate as played the role 20 years ago, when Sam Bass Theater first produced the play. She is, after all, 20 years older. What happened is that she has 20 years more insight into the role. Her audition was exactly what I wanted in a Kate. That is no reflection on the other actresses who read for the role. If BJ had not come, I would have had a difficult time choosing among several very good actresses.
So, having decided on BJ for the role of Kate, the rest of it fell into place pretty quickly. I have one actor who has no experience whatsoever, and another who is a bit unsure of his ability in a serious role. Still, this is going to work.
I just need a little boy to play Bert. I've put out a request to the mother of the child who played Ollie Herdman in "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" a year ago. I don't know if she (or he) will be interested, as this is a far cry from a light-hearted children's show, and he would be the only child in it.
If necessary, I may have to draft my grandson, though I'd rather not. Aidan has trouble differentiating between my two personas; the autocratic dictator and the indulgent grandma.
As well as that, his Aunt Vanessa is going to have a baby toward the end of the rehearsal period, and, while the show may be able to get by without a director for a couple of days at that point, it may be harder to get by without an actor.
We will have our first read-through tonight, and start blocking rehearsals on Monday.
Wish me luck!
Good luck, Ronni! Who knows; maybe, one day...
ReplyDeleteIf the kiddo from Christmas Pagent doesn't work out, I suggest one of the kiddos who was in Aladdin, Kristopher. He was also in summer camp. Lynn will have his info. Kid's a seriously hard worker, and talented. :)
ReplyDeleteKristopher was also in Pageant. He is, however quite a bit bigger. I need a small kid, as Joe has to lift him.
