Breaking With Tradition

Today is the first Middle School One-Act Playfest of the school year.

I have been to every one in the past eight years. Except this one.

You see, for the first time in a long time, I have a job that I really love. One that is worth disrupting my life for; one that makes it all right to work on a Saturday.

To be fair, if it weren't for the fact that it's five days after Halloween and we scheduled way too many returns for today, Ramona would let me off in a heartbeat. It's not as if she's some sort of slave driver; far from it! But it doesn't seem fair for me to blithely tell about a hundred people to bring their Halloween rentals back today, and then ask for the day off.

The show will go on. Vanessa will pick up the sandwiches from Thundercloud so that the kids will have something to eat. They usually have pizza, but sandwiches seem like a reasonable alternative. The Playfest is an all-day event, with each school getting a critique from six different judges. Jim will have to leave the other theater teacher in charge if it carries over into the evening, as he and I have a show tonight at Sam Bass Theater.

The fun never ends!
