Cooper's Pit Bar-b-q has been there on North Mays as long as I can remember. Now, it's gone. The property is up for sale.
I think there's some sort of push on to develop North Mays. I think it's part of closing the HEB that used to be a couple of blocks north of Cooper's. Cooper's is right on the edge of the part of town known as "The Flats," which is all small houses and poor people.
A ramshackle motel across Mays from Cooper's was bulldozed a few months ago, along with a pretty good sandwich shop which has relocated to much better quarters a mile or so south.
I wonder what is planned for this street. An old house that had been vacant for a long time was sold and moved out recently, as well.
I shall miss Cooper's. They sold good bar-b-q.
I will miss them, too. I drove by a couple of weeks ago and noticed they weren't open, but it was a Sunday, so I didn't think anything of it.
ReplyDeleteIt's enough to make a preggers cry to know all that is left for barbeque in this town is Rudy's and Pok-E-Joes.
