Vancouver liked Be-Ins. As opposed to "sit-ins," "be-ins" just involved "be"ing there. That was it. Just show up.
Eeyore's Party, here in Austin, reminds me of Vancouver's Easter Be-In. It would start in the morning, with bands playing continuously, dancing, beer, food and all sorts of fun. Where Eeyore's always sported a donkey, the Easter Be-In usually involved a frighteningly blonde girl (wrapped in a sheet) popping out of an egg. Don't ask.
It was usually muddy and cold.
Vancouver's Halloween Be-In was a whole nother story. It took place at night, and more resembled a riot than anything else. People staggered around, waving flares and burning torches in their hands! It's very scary to see a person way too drunk to stand up, caroming through the crowd with a flare in each hand. The continual random firecrackers had me on edge. Very few people came in costume, and those that did expressed grotesque ideas. It was muddy and cold. In a word; nightmare.
I had to get out of there.
All of a sudden, the B C Tel employees's party sounded pretty good. That's where I went the following year.
