This was a bargain. I was very lucky to get it. It was part of a rather nondescript jewelry lot in the bid cabinet at our local Goodwill Industries. I wound up paying $36 for it. The other things in the lot I sold on eBay for more than enough to cover the cost.
This necklace is a lovely thing. The pendant and most of the beads are amber glass, the pendant having enameled flowers. The other beads are brass filigree. It is quite old; I am guessing around the early 1900's. I wear it quite often and it is always a source of interest and a conversation starter. I don't tell just anybody that I bought it at the Goodwill!
That is a really beautiful piece, Ronni
ReplyDeleteYou have to enlarge the picture to see it at its best.
I think I will start looking around the goodwill stores over here. Time for me to wear something pretty to hide my ageing neck. LOL
Look in the thrift shops, too. I've got some good stuff there. Usually they are trained to determine if it's precious metal or not, but they don't know what's exceptional in costume jewelry.
ReplyDeleteI'm embarrassed to say this, but I love thrift shops.
ReplyDeleteI very seldom buy anything, but I find it hard to walk by one without taking a little look. Usually, I'm on the hunt for a vase, trinket box or a serving dish, but now I will look for treasures. LOL
I look for old china or vases. A friend and I have an Ugly Vase Contest going--she who finds the ugliest vase on any given day is the guest of the other for lunch. I look for jewelry and vintage clothing, as well.
ReplyDeleteOf course, I'm always on the lookout for clothes for Saffire, including large shoes, maternity clothes and baby stuff for Vanessa, etc.
I love them, too, and buy way too much!
well now you have told just anybody!
ReplyDeleteyou told me!
;-)
pretty...
That's gorgeous. I know one person who would've been so proud of your bargain. Kim! The thrift shopping queen. Not only were thrift stores her hobby, but so was refurbishing old jewelry and watches. I've been missing her a lot lately, and as soon as I read the entry I once again thought of her. I like them, too, but don't have the patience to go very often.
ReplyDeleteKim and I had always planned to go thrift shopping, because we both loed it. Unfortunately, we never could get our schedules in sync enough to do it.
ReplyDeleteI remember her mentioning that you'd discussed meeting for a day of thrift shopping, but busy schedules standing in the way.
