Random Picture #2

This tree is in the Duck Pond Park. Many years ago (at least ten), I was walking in the park just after sunset with Chandra, Vanessa and Luis. There may have been a couple of Vanessa's friends with us as well. As we rounded this tree, I noticed that there seemed to be a lot more exposed roots there than I was used to seeing.

One of them moved.

It was a whole nest of snakes, out for a moonbath.

I don't know for sure that they were water moccasins, but I suspect so. You should have seen us all dance among them to get clear!

It was winter, because I remember that we were all wearing coats, so the snakes were very slow-moving.

Even Round Rock has its dangers!

  3. Yeah! Like outside my own front door -- where I last encountered a snake. I had a talk with said snake about boundaries. My boundaries, and his boundaries. Haven't seen him since. :-)
