I just ran across one of those question things, and decided to actually think about it, instead of just saying "Agatha Christie," the way I usually do.
Who would you like to take to dinner? Not just meet, greet and converse with, but actually take to dinner. Like, out in public and all.
It has to be an actual historical person. If you want to have dinner with Sherlock Holmes or Jamie Fraser, you'll have to find another dimension.
I thought about Jesus, because, if all else failed, he could transform some water into wine and liven up the party. But, I'd have to worry that he'd want to go waking the dead and preaching and stuff, and the whole thing could get embarrassing.
Samuel Pepys might be fun. I hear that he was really good at dissing everyone else at the party. The same goes for Dorothy Parker, and she probably would have better table manners.
Maybe Samuel Taylor Coleridge, if he brought the drugs. Or Timothy Leary, under similar circumstances.
Eleanor of Aquitane, if she didn't get all queenly and arrogant. Chaucer, perhaps.
Jane Austen would be an absolutely fascinating conversationalist. So would C. S. Lewis.
I'm sure there are many, many people, whose names I will think of in the middle of the night. If that happens, I'll add them to this.
After all is said and done, it still comes back to Agatha Christie.
Truman Capote or Dominick Dunne.
ReplyDeleteOf course, both of them would diss me later as being Bourgesios and all, but I'd still enjoy it.
Lisa
You are a braver person than I! Sheesh!
ReplyDeleteI met Gerry Garcia and Grace Slick once, and sat there like a bump on a log. I suspect either one of those people would have the same effect!
You know, Martin, that's funny, because I thought about putting Lady Hamilton on my list, but I've forgotten most of her story, even though I read a biography of her a long time ago.
ReplyDeleteI think I would be intimidated by battle-hardened military men, though, of course, if you were there, I'd be fascinated by the conversation. I know my husband would invite Patton.
Stephen Fry! Sorry to be boring, Ronni. The man is utterly charming.
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't matter who you are or how you speak, it's all okay with him. The man is interesing to a fault!
BTW, Good morning!
Good morning!
ReplyDeleteI had to look him up, but when I find ut that he's Jeeves, well (dot dot dot), I have to agree that he'd be a lot of fun!
