This is Vanessa. At the time this picture was taken, she was 18. We used to occasionally put up a running improv while shopping, for our own entertainment, and that of anyone who happened to be listening, but it all ended the day she got the best of me for good.
She was dressed up for a job interview, and we stopped for a bite to eat at a fast food place. It was early afternoon, and the place was fairly crowded. She had finished eating, and I was still scarfing French fries, when she suddenly stood up and said, loudly...
"Thanks for the lunch, Lady, but I don't swing that way."
...and walked out, leaving me snorting Dr Pepper and potato bits all over the table! Every eye in the place was on me, and not in a friendly way, either! The best recovery I could make was to look around at the other patrons and say, "Oh, well--some you win, some you lose, and some get rained out!" and beat a hasty retreat.
I never ate there again!
Your daughter is beautiful. I can see the resemblance, Ronni.
ReplyDeleteMy Mother was far too strict for me ever to get away with something like that.
My daughter, on the other hand, either is afraid of the affect it would have on my insecurities, or, she just doesn't like me enough. RLH!
Oops! Good morning to tou
And now, something else from Desmond To Tou! Sorry, that should have been. Good morning to "you".
ReplyDeleteMy previous comment is saying that you are a great Mum. You did realise that. Didn't you?
Vanessa is really beautiful!
ReplyDeleteJust came by to catch up and say Hi.
Thanks for the kind words!
ReplyDeleteBuahaha! Your daughter is brilliant, much like her mother. And I am going to threaten to do this to my mother at some point.
ReplyDeleteThat's hilarious!
ReplyDeleteYour daughter is lovely.
Vanessa rules!
ReplyDeleteLisa, you must absolutely not threaten this. You must just do it.
