Chandra's name was supposed to be "Robin." When she was born, she didn't look like "Robin," at all. So SSS and I were left poring through name books, trying to agree on something...anything. As the days wore on, the situation became more and more desperate, with potential Godparents calling to ask, "Has that baby got a name yet?" Finally, he went through one name book, and I went through another, and we each made a list. There were two names that were identical on both lists: "Winona" and "Chandra." "Winona" means "first-born daughter," and "Chandra" means "brilliant, as the moon outshines the stars."
"Chandra" became the choice, as we were both afraid that folks would call her "Winnie."
She was born at the full moon, and, as a Cancer, has the moon for a ruling planet, so it seemed appropriate.
You certainly have chosen an appropriate name for your daughter, Ronni
ReplyDeleteMy daughter is named Robyn, because it has been a favourite of mine since childhood. She loves her name and that pleases me, because I have never liked mine.
My middle name is Lorimer, which I would have preferred to my given name.
Huh! What can you do. Too late, she cried!
Chandra loooks like a lovely, lovely person, Ronni.
ReplyDeleteTake care of each other!
Thanks, Mgt and Deborah! Good to see you!
ReplyDeleteI was always called "Veronica." I became "Ronni" when I went to college. My dad was "John" and my mother, "Dorothy," although she did answer to "Dorrie."
ReplyDeleteWe had all sorts of problems naming children!
Martin, she'll be 29 this year. I'm not sure whether she'd be happy to be designated a "girl!" She might be thrilled--the whole idea of getting older has never really appealed to her.
ReplyDeleteShe's really pretty, Vero and I love the name Chandra.
