"The Women"

We had our first read-through for "The Women" yesterday evening. I have three small roles, but most of yesterday was spent looking at the cast through my costumer's eye. Over the weekend, I'll have to put together a chart of who needs to wear what, and when. By doubling and tripling the smaller roles, the director has cast a 35-character show with 20 actresses.

Some of my favourite people are in it--several from the Christmas Pageant, and the first director I ever costumed for. CiCi, my live Barbie Doll, is playing Crystal Allen, the Joan Crawford role in the movie; the "other woman." Lynn is in it--the director of "Black Coffee," and the woman who played the doctor in that show is in this one, as well.

But, I'm playing a Cockney cook, a stuffy governess, and have a little, two line bit at the end as a society matron. That leaves me dressed in something glam for curtain call. Got to love that!

I played "The Widow" in "The Taming of the Shrew" years ago, and had a lovely costume for my first scene, but my last one had me in a nasty old muumuu and curlers, with green mud on my face. That meant that I had to do Curtain Call and Meet & Greet dressed like that! *shudders*
