They all looked very nice for the compulsory. Most of the guys wore traditional tailcoats, with the women in nice, knee-length romantic gowns.
Ye Gods! What has happened to skating costumes? So far, we've had blue tinsel, hot pink and yellow scarves (she looked like she had a bunch of flowers stuck on her chest), and now, feathers! This Israeli girl looks like Bjork in her swan dress! From hip to knee, she's nothing but a puff of feathers! I'm seeing beautiful skating, but the costumes are a distraction.
Now, we have red rags tied on with little strips. We're still on that whole asymmetrical kick. Could she not afford two sleeves? Where is the rest of the costume?
Fringe! Mother in Heaven, give me strength! She looks as if she is just wrapped (sort of) in fringe!
Note to costumer: Fluorescent pink is flattering to nobody. Especially not a blonde!
Oh, my! Here comes France. Her costume is a pair of sleeves with a fringe skirt. He looks like a refuge from "The Karate Kid."
More mercurochrome pink/orange. It's hanging loose in the front like a toga. I wish the "Fug" women would take on these costumes for a major critique!
I suspect that all these costumes come from the same evil designer. Rags and fringe, looking as if they're held on by willpower alone.
Here's an Italian couple who are at least colour coordinated. But her skirt has trailing bits to mid calf, front and back. Bleh.
Oh, lovely. Leopard print and bright blue tail. And her partner in basic black.
Now this girl looks like a bouquet of pansies, with her partner, too, in basic black. Oh wait--I just noticed as they fell on the ice that he has spangles.
Here's the American couple. *sigh* She is wearing a sleeve and a ruffle. Oh, well, at least it is a recognizable skirt. He, of course, is in basic black. Oh, but what a beautiful and flawless program! I am impressed!
Most of the men are looking pretty good, with simple pants and shirts (except for Mr Hot Pink), it's the women who are gagging me with the chainsaw tonight.
What happened to a simple leotard-plus-circular-skirt outfit in each skater's national colours? With the men in a jumpsuit or pants and a shirt, ditto. These athletes are wearing very expensive costumes that don't flatter them, and distract from their skating. Each of the women I've seen tonight is got up to look like a bimbo. I have no idea why. Maybe it's the Latin Dance influence--I've noticed that the Latin costumes in Ballroom Dance competitions are going in the same direction.
Oh, well. I can hardly wait to see what they turn out in for the FreeDance tomorrow!
