Cats and Rat

When you look closely at the shell-cave in the aquarium, you'll see a little rat peeking out. That's Chomper. The cats caught him out in the yard and brought him home. We tried for over an hour to get them to let the poor little thing go, and finally gave up, thinking he was a goner. Eventually, Younger Daughter managed to get him away from the assorted cats. She brought him in and we checked him out. Not a mark on him. He was sort of piebald, partly white and partly natural rat-colour. I still think he was somebody's pet, who had either escaped somehow or been thrown out to take his chances in the "wild."

He wound up being our pet, and Husband built him a wonderful habitat, where he lived in rat contentment, scarfing carrots and other delicacies, for upwards of three years, before old age claimed him and he went to The Great Maze in the Sky.

As you can see, Hilary and Bear were not going to let anything happen to him on their watch!

  2. I love your pictures of your cats. Have you really got 14?
I'm not so keen on rodents though. The ones in my house are uninvited guests!

  3. We are now down to 10. One passed away of old age (about 17, we think), and three decided to move in with the former neighbour when we moved. Turned out that the neighbour had been thinking they were their cats for quite a while.

    Apparently, they buy better crunchies!

  4. That's just Chomper's starter cage! He wound up with a two storey condo with ramps and stuff.
