The quote is from "The Odd Couple--Female Version," by Neil Simon. It came to mind tonight as I served Stouffers' lasagne to our first "company." Well, it was Older Daughter and Grandson, but it counts.
It counts because I had to scare up two extra chairs, and the set-up made me laugh. We are still not very organized, due to Husband's having hurt his back during the move, and my spending all my time trying to organize laundry and find shampoo and things like that.
In any case, around the old pedestal table with the wood-grain Formica (it's the only table I've found small enough to fit in the "dining area" and still leave room for my computer), we have two computer chairs, two wooden kitchen chairs (one of which matches the table), and Great-Grandmother's lovely mahogany chair with the needlepoint seat.
Tomorrow, I hook up Husband's computer, come hell or high water. He needs something to do. He keeps trying to help with the unpacking. Not a good thing. I really don't want to spend the rest of Christmas (excuse me; "Winter") break up at the ER.
But, I digress. Grandson decided he didn't want to eat, as lasagne is something so very exotic. By the time we had almost finished, he decided that he might like to try a bite. Inside of 30 seconds, he had sucked down a pretty hefty helping, and had his whole attitude toward marinara sauce turned right around. He has hereby graduated from Spagettios to Stouffers!
The Female Odd Couple. I know that show!
ReplyDeleteYou should! Wasn't that your first show at Sam Bass Theater?
ReplyDeleteHave I said that I'm sure glad you decided to come and play with us?
Oh Ronni, this made me laugh so hard! I am quite familiar with the "helpful" hubby. While my hubby was injured and around the house with nothing "interesting" to do he decided to "help" me. I was very happy when he recovered.
ReplyDeleteAnd congrats to your grandson on his more sophisticated palate! He'll be moving on to Lean Cuisine in no time!
I wish! It will beat the heck out of McDonald's, which is his cuisine du jour!
