The Show Opens on Friday!

One of my Baby Angels quit the show. Her mommy emailed my Assistant Director with the news (and it was news) that she sings with the Austin Children's Choir, and has rehearsals for that on Thursdays and their concert is Dec 10th.

I KNOW I mentioned at the auditions that conflicts were a big issue with me. Especially performance conflicts. I know that a lot of kids have other things going on at this time of year, and my show is, after all, a small production, compared with Christmas shows in Austin, choir concerts and the like.

So, why did this woman stress her daughter with almost daily rehearsals, when she knew she was going to have to withdraw her from the show? Maybe larger shows have rôles double-cast, or extra baby angels to pop in at will. I don't. The mommy asked if there was anyone who could replace her. I replied that I certainly wasn't going to try and replace her at this late date, and would just get by with one less Baby Angel.

My friend Lisa, www.thelisalog.blogs.com, has a category she calls "You're doing this to piss me off, right?" If I had such a one, this would fit.

I still have one dress to make, for "Beth." I need a "Mary" veil and a choir robe for my music director. I got my night sky hanging done yesterday. I found the perfect fabric at Hobby Lobby, and was digging for gold lamé to make a big star for it, when I found a lot of glue-on jewels. I sorted out all the blue and white ones, and glued them all over the panel. Much better than one big one.

All the little things will come together on Thursday for an "adequate" dress rehearsal. One never wants a perfect Final Dress. It jinxes the Opening.

Heaven knows, we don't need that!
