A Wonderful Moment

We have eight rehearsals before we open. This is a very scary time for a director. This is when it seems that the kids will never learn to be quiet backstage. "Hobie" can't tell what scene he is in, "Alice" has some sort of enunciation issue, and "Beth" is hormonal. Then, "Imogene" tells me that she has to miss the final dress rehearsal (the one with invited audience), in order to perform something in class, or she will flunk out.

I try to block a mini-fight between "Gladys" and "Ollie," who are brother and sister in real life. It takes four times through it before I can get them to stop on cue.

This is when I disappear, and all the mommies find me in the wings, crying, sucking my thumb, and uttering words that Baby Angels shouldn't hear. (Just kidding!)

After that, we run the Pageant scene. All those lovely children come out on stage, singing "O Little Town Of Bethlehem," and NOT sounding like a "closetful of mice." "Maxine" has her lines down pat, "Gladys," as "The Angel of the Lord" comes in right on cue, "Imogene," as "Mary," really looks as if she is crying.

And I know that, no matter what else happens, we have a show!

  1. Wishing you all the best with the show, Vero.

You have worked so hard, and you deserve some glory.

I'm not sure what the expression is for l.u.c.k. So, I'll let you fill that in. LOL

    Break a leg!

  2. Ronni, I have no experience with the theatre, but I do have experience with lost and abandoned kitties. You've got a good heart and are doing great things.

You've got to see the book "Bad Cat" by Jim Edgar. It's a riot! I picked up a copy at Barnes and Noble over the noon hour and am still howling with laughter!

  3. I could use a "howling with laughter" book right now! Thanks, Vix!
