"The Best Christmas Pageant Ever"

This is going to be the Christmas Show at Sam Bass Community Theater. We used to do it every year, but, it has been nine years (I think) since it has been done. We all got thoroughly sick of it, and our patrons did, too. So, we did "A Christmas Carol" a few times, as well as other children's shows not directly related to Christmas.

Enough time has passed that we are re-adventuring into "Best Pageant." The kids that did it over and over are grown and gone, and we have a whole new batch of victims...I mean, actors...to typecast in the rĂ´les. There are the church kids, the Herdmans, the church ladies, the minister, the pageant director, her husband, and, did I mention the Herdmans?

If any of you are familiar with Barbara Robinson's story, you'll know the Herdmans. They are pirates, bikers, vandals; the Mongol Horde. They sweep through the auditions for the Christmas pageant like a scythe through hay. They don't know the Christmas story, and have to filter it through their experience in order to understand it. The resulting vision is very different from the usual interpretation in Christmas pageants across the land.

But, the end is the same. The Story works it's Christmas magic on the Herdmans.

  1. Victims eh? I like the sound of that...I mean...I shouldn't say that! : )

I think you have a better grasp of this show then anyone who's tackled it recently at the theatre as you have a) directed it and b) seen what works and doesn't work several times over...and learned from the mistakes of many directors with their vaired styles.

I think this could be the best of the "Best" yet...

  2. Oh? Who has tackled it recently? I was hoping it was long enough that it had been completely forgotten!

I'm actually *amazed* that they'll let me near kids again!

I'll tell you one thing...I ain't gonna put up with no nonsense!

I need somebody backstage with real teeth; know what I mean?
