We are 10 days away from opening the play, and I'm starting to get a bit frazzled. It's not a new feeling--I'm usually a bit frazzled at this point, particularly when I'm actually in the play, as well as costuming. This is when people start to get impatient if their costumes are not ready yet.
One of my prize pieces is an old woolen suit from the 1920's or 30's. It has two pairs of pants, a vest and a jacket. It's in very good condition, though small. One of the actors in this play wore the suit in "Auntie Mame," which we did about 18 months ago. He's going to wear it again. Trouble is, he has put on a bit of weight, so buttons need to be moved, etc. Of course, he wants it yesterday, if not sooner.
I still have to complete the conversion of suit jacket to Bobby's tunic. The butler wrecked his knee playing rugby and is having surgery, so I don't know if his tailcoat is going to fit or not. The small giant playing Inspector Japp is going to need something from A Cut Above, the costume rental we use. I just don't have a lot of stuff lying around for a 6'5" guy with a 49" waist!
I have two huge boxes of hot rollers, curling irons, etc, and can't find either of them. I also have a large plastic bin of seamed stockings, which I can't find, either. I really Hate it when that happens!
But, the girls look lovely, which is a plus. This show has given me an excuse to drag out two of my very favourite dresses, both of which have been in at least two plays. I will post pics when I have them.
Stay tuned for further whingeing and angst!
Vero, the strawberry shortcake dress make out of foil, was a bloody disaster.
ReplyDeletePossum, try mylar. It looks like foil, but is sort of plastic cellophane.
