The Blog War

Well, well, well.

The internet is such a strange place! Crime fans are very strange people.

There are a lot of forums and message boards devoted to the discussion of crimes and trials. In many cases, the same people are posting the same opinions on several at a time. Sometimes, even under the same nicknames. Friendships and enmities abound, wax, wane, and spill over onto other sites and blogs.

Observations of a Misfit is such a blog. The Head Misfit, Loretta Dillon, by name, is a witty and opinionated woman. She's not afraid to put her opinions out there, on her own blog, as well as on various newsgroups, boards and forums.

Sometimes, her opinions are (gasp) not politically correct. Sometimes facts prove her first conclusions to be way off base. And, frequently, she is spot on, uncompromisingly accurate.

Many people are attracted to the combination of writing ability, research, and acerbic wit that Ms. Dillon brings to her blog. The only problem is that some people wind up on the wrong end of said wit, and get their feelings hurt. Frequently because they don't understand sarcasm or satire.

The presence of the "bogbuster" blog is a testimonial to the obsession of people that Ms. Dillon has offended at one time or another. There, they gather to discuss the private lives, eating habits, fashion sense and general intelligence of anyone whose name has become associated with Ms. Dillon's. The cream of their wrath, though, is saved for Ms. Dillon herself. Her child-rearing philosophy, relationships past and present, family, friends, job history, living arrangements, vacation plans, skin care, and wardrobe choices are continuously dissected, dismembered, and dissed. Every error she has made is carefully saved and cultivated, passed around, exclaimed over, and recycled. Fault is found with her eyebrows and teeth. When they get bored with all that, they start to make things up.

I wonder if anybody remembers, any more, what really started it?

  1. I have wondered the same thing Vero.

But I agree with what Loretta has done now and wish her all the best.

I haven't been at the blog that long so I don't know the history.

I am always eager to read her blog each day, and will continue to do that. I am very happy for her that she has taken this aproach.

  2. Did you email her, possum? She says she feels relieved by the decision to go private. In my experience, a feeling of relief when a decision is made is a sign that the decision is correct.
