I have the strangest problems with schools!
Son is supposed to be a Sophomore this year. I say "supposed" because, when we went up to Sophomore Registration to get books, they couldn't find his schedule. After an intensive search of the School's computer, the counsellor found the reason. It seems he has amassed enough credits to be considered a Junior! This isn't quite the equivalent of skipping a grade; it's more like he has accelerated himself through. The counsellor said she would get the problem sorted, but, guess what? He now has his school ID, which says he is in the class of 2007. In other words, a Junior.
So, what do I do with him if he graduates early? In order to get financial aid, scholarships, etc., I think he has to go right on into university, at 17. He wants to go to the University of Texas, which means he can live at home.
I just don't want him to peel out of the squadron.
Somebody has to support me in my old age!
Check around, he may not have to attend right away, although some scholarships would be oriented to new graduates. If you feel he isn't ready or money is an issue many new graduates spend a semester or two at community college, get a few credits and then he could go to the big U. with his friends. Just a thought.
ReplyDeleteWe have friends who have a 12 year old who is starting university this year.I don't envy them of what they are going through at the moment, they are trying to organize scholarships, and trying to get financial aid, but are having a hell of a time. His mother has had to leave her job, so that she can travel with him each day to university because he is to young to get himself there. There must be someone that, is there to give you guys some advice.
ReplyDeleteSon's step-grandfather has offered to help us through the morass of financial aid. I'm more concerned with his maturity level. I might sugges he do a semester or two at ACC first, but I don't think it's going to fly!
